Royal Australian Air Force Museum Visit April 2016

In April I was in Melbourne for a couple of days to visit my wife's family. Whilst there my some and I took the opportunity to visit the Royal Australian Air Force Museum.

I had never been here before so I was looking forward to the visit. The museum has a large collection of aircraft (over 80 I was told) but they don't have the facilities to display all of it. What is is on display is nicely presented in several small older hangers.

It was good  to see the F-4, Canberra and F-111G although the downside is that they are  behind large glass panels which stops you getting really close.

The other storage hangar and restoration hangars you could access had an elevated walkways which allowed reasonable views of what is in those hangars. but it would have been nice to get closer to the various aircraft in the storage hangar.

However it was  shame to see the large aircraft out in the weather covered in  what I assume is dirt and bird shit.

It would be nice to see Museum one day move to a large modern facility (like the FAA Museum at Nowra). Hopefully the RAAF, or even the Victorian Government  will find some money to make this happen as I think it could be major tourist attraction.

The photos are a bit grainy as they were taken at High ISO, and with the flash because, like many of these places, it was bloody dark. I have heard all the reasons for keeping things dark but it's still a shame that you don't get to see the aircraft in better light

Anyway enough rambling onto the photos .
