This particular aircraft was operated by 1771 Squadron Fleet Air Arm (FAA) from HMS Implacable in 1944. It was lost during an attack on the Rorvik port in Norway on the 26 October 1944. The pilot Sub Lt R.M Shaw (RNZN) and his observer Sub Lt G.M. Smith were killed during the attack.
The Kit
- 1/48 Special Hobby Fairy Firefly Mk 1 (Kit No 48127)
Detail is pretty nice straight from the box. They build up well albeit with the exception of the clear parts which do take a bit of work to get to fit. I do wish they’d moulded them so they could be posed open to display the nicely detailed cockpit. I think I’ll build another at some stage.
Aftermarket
- Master Model barrels
- Eduard Steel Seatbelts although these were for the Trumpeter kit
- Barracuda Wheels
- Barracuda Prop
Prior to the build I'd also grabbed a few Barracuda vac form canopies I had intended to use the Barracuda vac form canopies so I could pose the front and rear cockpits open. However the vac forms are for the grand phoenix kits and the front one doesn't fit correctly over the fuselage behind the cockpit so I decided to use the kit clear parts and do closed cockpits.
